These tides riseand fall over a range that is greater than 50 feet; such massive water movementcombined with accumulation of sediment through erosion has built up a large saltmarsh that is a feeding station for migrating shore birds. The low fundy alsofeeding a ground for marine life including whales. A long time ago between about15000 and 10000 year ago at the glacier retreated from the last ice age, part ofGeorges Bank were dry land. The sun and the moon arethe only important celestial bodies in producing Terrestrial tides. While themoon is much smaller than the sun, it is nevertheless more important for tidalprocesses, because of its proximity to the earth. There is a small imbalancebetween the centrifugal force and the gravitational attraction of the moon onthe water column that gives rise to horizontal forces, causing water motion thatcauses two bulges in the sea surface. One immediately under the earth, and theother on the other side of the earth.

Which Ruled Korea From 9 To

Today most thatched houses are found in “folk villages,” living museums where traditional Korean culture is preserved. Many thatched-roof houses have simple fences made of sticks or stones. The walls of the houses are made of mud mixed with straw. In the colder northern provinces, roofs are very thick and hang low over the house. In the warmer southern part of Korea, roofs are thinner, and windows and porches are larger. In the Choson Kingdom, which ruled Korea from 9 to 90, there was an elite class called the yangban. They held government positions and were respected for their learning. Many yangban homes were whitewashed with brown trim and gray tile roofs. The yangban, and all commoners, were not allowed to use the bright decorations found on palaces and Buddhist temples. Larger yangban homes were divided into three parts: the sarangbang, the men’s sitting room; the anbang, inner quarters where women lived and worked; and the family shrine, home to the spirits of the family ancestors. Servants usually lived in rooms outside the main gate. The sarangbang was used as the bedroom, study and sitting room for yangban men.
Decorations and furniture were simple: just a few cushions, a small writing desk, a chest or bookshelf and simple wooden holders for paper and brushes. The sarangbang was located between the front gate and the inner room, or anbang, where the women and girls of the household lived and worked.

And His Drawings And Plans

The Horse, as it was known, was the culmination of 16 years of work. Leonardo was fascinated by horses and drew them constantly. In The Horse, Leonardo experimented with the horses’ forelegs and measurements. The severe plagues in 1484 and 1485 drew his attention to town planning, and his drawings and plans for domed churches reflect his concern with architectural problems. In addition he also assisted the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli in the work Divina Proportione. While in Milan Leonardo kept up his own work and studies with the possible help of apprentices and pupils, for whom he probably wrote the various texts later compiled as Treatise on Painting. The most important painting of those created in the early Milan age was The Virgin of the Rocks. Leonardo worked on this piece for an extended period of time, seemingly unwilling to finish what he had begun. It is his earliest major painting that survives in complete form. From 1495 to 1497 Leonardo labored on his masterpiece, The Last Supper, a mural in the refectory of the Monastery of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. While painting The Last Supper, Leonardo rejected the fresco technique normally used for wall paintings.
An artist that uses this fresco method must work quickly. Leonardo wanted to work slowly, revising his work, and use shadows-which would have been impossible in using fresco painting.

AIDS Has Struck Hard In Sub-Saharan Africa

Africa’s hopes for a better future depend in large part on improving the health of its people. Better access to good quality reproductive health services, particularly family planning, is key to improving health status especially for women. The reality of reproductive health in Africa, however, is far from ideal. Women begin child-bearing in their teens and have an average of six children. Meanwhile, AIDS has struck hard in Sub-Saharan Africa, where roughly 1 in 10 adults both men and women are infected with HIV.
Yet traditional attitudes favoring large families are changing rapidly, owing to the growth of cities, the rising cost of living and lower child death rates, among other factors. Demand for family planning has increased dramatically in some countries, and the decline in birthrates ,limited as recently as a decade ago to only a few countries in the region, appears to be spreading steadily across the continent. In much of Africa, however, large families are still the norm. This situation is reinforced by low levels of education, particularly among women, and social barriers to the full economicparticipation of women.
